Puree Drama

I gotta tell ya, mom groups on Facebook DEFINITELY have their pros, but I’m noticing they do also have their cons. There have been a few times I posted looking for help and left the conversation feeling horrible…

Any conversation surrounding vaccines, even if you’re just asking about side effects (drowsy, weepy, uncomfortable, etc) leads for obnoxious debates as to vax injuries and what not.

Posting about wanting to start purees and getting roundhouse kicked in the tatas by moms that want to crucify you for starting at 5 months instead of 6.

I guess the point of me venting about this is that mom groups are wonderful places to share milestones and share pictures (if you are comfortable) of your pride and joy. They are places you can go to get tips on better sleep and how to get your baby to roll over and have successful tummy time and toy recommendations.

However, when it comes down to it, even first time moms, know their baby. And for what you don’t know with your gut, don’t let the opinions of a stranger on some Facebook page trump the guidance given to you by your childs doctor. Don’t feel like a bad mom because others wouldn’t make the decision you did for your child. For every person out there that does not agree with you, there are people that do. Its important to keep that in mind.

Have fun with the time you get with your little one! I feel like I learned this lesson recently which is why I wanted to share this with you. People told me not to start purees but with the guidance from her pediatrician I did anyway and its been a blast! She loves her carrots but really isnt a fan of Bananas πŸ˜‚

Tips we were given when we started solids:

1) try oatmeal cereal not rice cereal, easier on the belly when starting before 6 months

2) if she gets gas you can give her gas drops after her meal

3) when switching to purees start with veggies. If you start with fruot it can sometimes be hard to go back cause they love the sweetness of the fruit.

4) you can mix in the puree with a little cereal to cut it.

5) start with stage 1 single ingredient purees. Blends make it harder to pinpoint allergies when/if they occur

Signs of readiness:

1) head control/ neck control

2) ability to sit mostly on their own

3) tongue thrust – Izzy had this at first but after a few bites it went away. It’s where they literally push the food out of their mouth rather than swallowing

This is info I’ve gathered so far but value your input if you have tips or hints! Recipes for hommade food for stage 1 babies are also welcome πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
